Limestone: Properties, Uses and Limits

Where limestone performs well, and where care is needed.

Limestone is a sedimentary rock made mostly of calcium carbonate. It has been used in buildings for thousands of years.

Typical uses

Limestone is used for wall cladding, flooring, paving, steps, fireplaces and landscaping, in tones from cream and beige to grey.

Limits

Limestone is softer than granite and reacts with acids, so it needs more care in kitchens and wet areas. Sealing and gentle cleaning products help.

Specify

State the colour range, finish, size, thickness and intended use so the supplier can recommend a suitable grade.
