Wooden Crates, Pallets or Bundles: Packing Stone for Long Journeys

A short comparison of the three most common ways to pack stone for container shipping.

The right packing method depends on the product, the route and how the cargo will be handled at the destination.

Crates

Closed wooden crates give the most protection for polished or high-value pieces and for fragile formats. They add weight and cost.

Pallets

Palletised cartons or stacked, strapped products are efficient to load and unload with a forklift. Edge protection and wrapping matter for finished surfaces.

Bundles and A-frames

Slabs are often shipped in bundles or on A-frames, which keep them upright and secured. Loading plans must balance weight inside the container.

How to decide

Tell your supplier the product, quantity, destination and how the goods will be unloaded. They can then recommend suitable packing.
