Sandstone is a sedimentary rock with a warm, natural texture. Rajasthan is well known for its sandstone, which appears in forts, palaces and modern paving and cladding.
Common uses
Paving, garden walls, wall cladding, steps and landscaping all use sandstone. Colours range through buff, pink, red, brown and grey depending on the source.
Finish and grip
Natural split and flamed surfaces give better grip outdoors, while honed or sawn surfaces suit sheltered interiors. Ask for finish references suited to the location.
Care
Sandstone can absorb water and stains. A suitable sealer, applied according to the maker’s instructions, can make cleaning easier. Test on a spare piece first.
